The Art of Cane
Every piece begins with a natural material and skilled hands.
Sourced by hand
Our cane is sourced from sustainably managed groves, selected stalk by stalk for flexibility and grain before it ever reaches a workshop. A weaver can tell within seconds of running a stalk through their hands whether it will hold a tight curve — that judgment isn't something a machine sorts for.
3–5 yrs
typical regrowth cycle for the cane we source, versus decades for hardwood
Soaked and bent
Before weaving begins, cane is soaked to make it pliable, then bent around wooden forms to build the frames that give each piece its structure. This stage sets the entire silhouette of a chair or table — get it wrong here, and no amount of weaving corrects it later.
24–48 hrs
soaking time before cane is workable enough to bend without cracking
Woven by artisans
Every piece passes through the hands of artisans trained in techniques passed down across generations. A single lounge chair back can take a full day of continuous weaving — no two pieces come out quite identical, which is the point rather than a flaw.
6–10 hrs
hand-weaving time for a single chair back, depending on pattern
Finished with care
A final pass of sanding, sealing and quality inspection, done by the same small team that wove the piece, before it leaves the workshop. We reject pieces with structural inconsistencies at this stage rather than let them ship — the irregularity we keep is aesthetic, not structural.
